Underground Symphony

I was deeply inspired by learning about the Coastal Redwoods of the Bay Area, the tallest trees on Earth, and I created a series in their honor. They rise over 300 feet thanks to roots that interlock horizontally up to 80 feet, forming a remarkable network of mutual support. Scientists used to believe that trees were only interested in their individual survival, but redwoods tell a different story. They are deeply collaborative, supporting each other through interconnected root systems. Their way of growing through deep collaboration holds a powerful lesson for us as human beings.

For this series, I carved a new root pattern into a linoleum block and printed it in various colors. This is a tradition I return to each year, with each new pattern becoming a permanent part of my aesthetic toolbox.
