This linoleum block print commemorates my first abortion. I got pregnant in 1999 after falling in love with an artist from Chicago. I thought that this person loved me, but when I revealed that I was pregnant, he disappeared without explanation. I ended up having to have an abortion on my own. I experienced deep trauma from his abandonment and the pain of the entire experience became the subject of many of my future art works. This print depicts the type of support I would have loved to receive from my partner. The title, “Man on the Moon,” refers to the difficulty I had in locating my partner at the time of my pregnancy. He literally disappeared and I was not able to talk to him about the abortion nor did I get any support from him.
