Abortion is normal. Many people with uteruses, from all backgrounds, from all races and all classes have the shared experience of having an abortion. National data indicates that, "1 in 3 women in the United States has had an abortion," yet the stigma attached to it is so great that many people are silent about it. When we don't share or normalize our experience around abortion, we allow conservative, anti-choice, cisgender men to perpetuate shame, control the narrative, and ultimately pass laws that threaten our bodily autonomy.

There is a power in the shared experience of having had an abortion, and that is why I created this poster encouraging people to come out about their abortions and to share their stories. My intent with this piece was to speak out against the shame, the isolation, and the secrecy surrounding abortion.

As we tell our stories and support our family and friends as they come forward with theirs, we build a culture of compassion, empathy, and support. We normalize the act of abortion. The right to control your own reproduction is the most fundamental right we have. It's urgent that we demand access to legal and safe reproductive care in our communities.
