Birth of the World is a new collage series about pleasure and the human body. Colonization forces the body into a small box, yet the body itself is expansive, mysterious, and wild. This work comes from my journey of re-wilding my relationship to my body and returning to integrity with the natural world. Through my body and my art, I unlearn shame and harmful messages so I can reclaim joy, autonomy, and my body’s innate wisdom. Influenced by thinkers like Victor Warring, I reflect on how patriarchy and colonization have domesticated our ideas about sexuality and pleasure, framing them as dangerous or immoral. For the past three years, body art has been a central part of my practice, allowing me to celebrate being feral, free, and fully expressed. These collages incorporate photos by my friend and collaborator, Bobby Gordon.
