Contemplation EV 1/6

This collection was an experimental series designed to help me develop the language of my shapes. My task was to create simple compositions with as few elements as possible. My inspiration for this series came from seeing a New York exhibition on Henri Matisse in 2014. His approach to cut-out compositions gave me a new set of rules with which to play. Informed by Matisse’s many studio habits, I spent weeks creating my palette and extensive tonal library. I then developed a library of shapes that I cut out from my various colors sheets and organized them in multiple arrangements, the results of which you can see here.
