Collage with Linoleum Block and Monoprint Elements on Cotton Rag Paper
30 x 22.5 inches

This collage is a homage to Centeotl, the God of Maiz (Corn). In the Spring of 2021, I learned how to plant corn for the first time. I started my corn from seed, using seeds from the Zapatistas, which they call “a corn in resistance.” I delved into understanding the powerful role that maiz (corn) has played in my culture and in indigenous cultures throughout Turtle Island (or what we call Latin America today).

This piece combines my pattern-making with letters as well as linoleum block textures. This piece marked the beginning of me creating interpretations of the Maiz God and reflected my relationship to corn that blossomed throughout the Spring and Summer of 2021.
