"El Metro del DF"
Silkscreen May 2007, Oakland, CA
I drew this piece in 2004 on one of my many visits to Mexico City. It sat in my sketchbook for almost 3 years, until I was commissioned by Swarthmore University's Intercultural Center to develop a piece for their annual student celebration. The piece is a depiction of me inside the huge metropolis which is la Ciudad de Mexico (aka Mexico DF - Distrito Federal). As a kid growing up in Mexico City,
my uncle would tell me that if I would ever get lost in the city, I would never be found, probably an exagerration but a good way to imagine the hugeness of it. My dearest memory of the city includes my long rides on the subway - the subway map is positioned inside the main character's body. The texture on the woman's face is a pattern I found on one of my American Airlines ticket stub.
. . . . . see next piece
